POEM: What Have I Become

What Have I Become

Hey beautiful people. I hope you are having a splendid day. I hope you are staying home, following the recommended guidelines like social distancing, and staying safe during this pandemic. So. ..I actually wrote this poem a few years ago. I thought it would be good to bring it over to the blog.

POEM: WHAT HAVE I BECOME
[By: Bridget E. Ukeni]

Some days
I cannot help but wonder
What I have become
They have thrown this darkness
At me and squeezed out
Every ounce of innocence from me
What have I become?
A shadow of myself?
A restless wanderer?
A troubled leaf shaking
From all the noise?
A mind overwhelmed by
The fantasy of unconditional love
Or a being void
Of any emotion or humanity?
A once full but now
Kicked down, rusted, empty barrel?
What have I become?
A fire yet to be ablaze?
A fire waiting to be rekindled?
A spirit waiting to be reinvigorated?
A burnt down house
Waiting to become home?
Or a mere space waiting to be filled
By an inexistent presence?
A yearning soul in the quest for life
But never really living?
What have I become?
What have I become?
I really wonder
what I have become
